confessions of a recovering hater

"If I don't like it I don't like it, that don't mean that I'm hatin"

For those of you who have known me for long enough, you could describe me as a hater. In the past I made such a fierce effort to be independent that I would simply hate on stuff just because other people liked it. On the bright side, I found a lot of great music and movies that I would have not otherwise heard or seen. On the down side, I was being a douche. There are plenty of good things out there that I refused to check out. Why? Because I was a hater. In my attempted growth as a person, I've tried to stop hating on things for no good reason.

Some things that I have stopped hating on:

- Harry Potter: I thought they were kind of dorky. I forgot that I am kind of dorky. 9 years later, yeah, they're entertaining books.

- Transformers the Movie: Not the cartoon, that has always been the shit. The live action one. It's a fun movie, although I'm still not too happy about the way the robots look. But if it's on TV, I'll watch it. And I'm sure as hell going to see the new one.

-Kobe: He's got great D, and his offensive skillset is the deepest, most diverse, and most fun to watch. Is he arrogant? Yes. Did that chick ask for it? Yes.

-Lebron: I may hate him, but I can't hate ON him. He is the shaq of guards. He's changing the game. You can not stop him. He scores, he gets assists, boards, and plays D(that's a recent development). However, as a Wizards fan, I can never, ever forgive him for the shit he said to Gilbert, or for the game winning travels. I'm glad that Wizards/Cavs has become a rivarly, because I want to see that over the years. Oh yeah, and uh, crab dribble. That is all.

-Crocs: They're really comfortable, and they are impervious to bad smells. I only wear them for ultimate.

-Kanye West: This one is hard. Lyrically, there's a thousand guys I'd rather listen to. But he's not bad. His beats are dope. And when you look at him in comparison to all the other hip hop on the radio... well ok I see why people sweat him. I don't listen to his shit that much, but I respect him.

-Blogging: kind of self explanatory.

Something that everyone else hated on, EXCEPT ME, now I kind of hate on it now that everyone else likes it:

- Family Guy: I loved this show when it was originally on, and was upset when it was cancelled. I bought it on DVD when it came out, and was excited when they brought it back. Now I don't really watch it that much, it's just not as good as the old episodes. It's still funny though.

Some things I'm trying to stop hating on:

-Jay-z: This is originally from that "other people like him" type of hating. I have been scrutinzed for this more than any other hatage. Like Kanye I said "there are dudes out there just as tight." His verse on "I just died" about dumbing down his lyrics to sell records... well that about did it for me. Pretty much the definition of selling out. Now (deep breath) I'm trying to get over that and appreciate his music for what it is. So I will plunge myself into his discography.

-Jimmy Falon: He's not Conan. He's just not. I wasn't a huge fan of him on SNL or weekend update. But I hear he's funny, and he's got the roots. THE FUCKING ROOTS.

Well that about does it for now. I'm sure there's other stuff I hate on, and my friends are sure to remind me.
