June

Play this: (I can't simply put youtube videos into my blog, so you'll have to bear with me and designate another window for your soundtrack.)

I wasn't planning on writing another post today. But sometimes music just hits you, and I had to say something about it, so thank god I have a blog. (also, "thank god for 9th.") Sometimes you're just jamming out, and you realize, I fucking love music. "Kick off my shoes relax and play/and spin it for the whole joint/ cus I like to get the whole point/ music is everything to me..."

As dope as LB is, I digress. That was not the song that hit me today, although it did pop into my head when I was thinking about what to write. Just saying thank god triggered the memory of that lyric. I know you guys do that shit too. You just hear a phrase, a sentence, a word, and you immediately hear a song in your head. I am distracted yet again, back to my point.

I've always been a fan of different types of hip hop, there's an incredible range. Some hip hop is all about having fun ("and you can tell by how her titties hung"). Some hip hop is more serious. I've always loved music that speaks from the heart. It's great to see someone turn their problems and pain into something beautiful. A lot of art can do that, but hip hop hits home the most for me. Everything El-p does pretty much, especially step father factory. Odd jobs the shopkeeper's wife is a pretty heavy album, especially transparent. Sims, lights out paris... that album is great.

What hit me this time, is one song, by one artist. A notoriously vulgar battle rapper with some great punchlines. He describes his style as being "like a pussy with AIDS/ you don't wanna fuck with it." "Non believers who can't accept we're the hottest/ sleep on us/ and wake up in flame broiled pajamas." Funny, but certainly not profound.

When a guy like that comes out and drops a song from the heart, it really blows me away. Just two verses at the end of RJD2's album. If you don't know it, you should. Even if you do, enjoy it again:
